First of all, I have to admit that one of the things I hate to do the most is cut out lamination! It hurts my back, it is annoying, and let’s be honest, after all that work, the kids will peel it back and ruin what you spent hours creating. I know we all have some version of task cards we like to use and they usually look best printed in color, but we do not have access to printing all of our instructional materials in color when we want. So, the resource I am sharing with you all today has become my favorite FREE resource. Boom Cards are digital task cards that you can create or you can use already created cards. They appear digitally in color and require no lamination or cutting out! Also, they give your students immediate feedback on how they are doing on each task card, students earn points to spend on avatars and other items, and you will also have access to data disaggregation on each set of task cards you assign and you can use this data for several things, I use it as a grade for the week in the gradebook!

How do you get started? Just go to the website link below and sign up for a free account. You can add 3 classes and up to 80 students for free. You can buy task card sets on this website or on Teachers Pay Teachers, but you can also find free task card sets as well. You also can create your own task cards. There are several YouTube video tutorials if you need help getting started. You can also change any students login information to be what you want it to be and make every students’ password the same!

My students enjoy working in this application and honestly it makes them do the work to practice and learn the skills I have already taught in class. Sometimes I feel like they get accustomed to me supporting their learningand being accessible immediately and this application allows them to do the work. The instant feedback allows them to learn from mistakes and practice until they are proficient versus just completing the task cards. I personally make my students work in the deck until they are at least at a 75% proficient rate.

I hope you will check out this application as it has made my life easier, learning more meaningfuland engaging for my students, and of course it is FREE!
